Child Life Fund
At Horizon’s Saint John Regional Hospital, specially trained Child Life Coordinator, Beth MacNutt, helps our youngest patients cope with their fears and anxieties of a hospital visit, by offering therapeutic activities tailored to meet their social, emotional, and educational needs. To provide the highest quality of care, funding is needed to purchase items such as iPads, laptops, educational toys and games, artwork supplies, etc.
Hospitals can be a confusing and frightening environment for a child. Medical procedures, unfamiliar surroundings, and new faces. To help children cope with a visit to the hospital and reduce stress, Pediatric Departments at hospitals throughout Atlantic Canada offer the Child Life Program.
Child Life Programs focus on the social and emotional impact of illness and hospitalization. Child Life Specialists are critical in ensuring a positive hospital experience for children, by using the power of play to help socialize, prepare, express feelings, normalize, and learn, about the procedure or experience they’ll face.
Your donation will go a long way in helping a child cope with their hospital visit.
"It’s such a privilege and an honour to work with these children and their families at a time when they are often in crisis or a difficult place. It’s the best job in the world.”
"If [Beth] sees something that will make [Paul’s] stay at the hospital better, she saves it just for him. And he loves it. It just really makes his day."
