The Saint John Regional Hospital receives $1 million gift from the J.T Clark Family Foundation, closing the Clinic 1 Expansion capital campaign
MARCH 30, 2021 SAINT JOHN, NB: Thanks to The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc.'s support, The Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation has reached its $12 million goal for the Clinic 1 Expansion capital campaign.
Mr. John T. Clark has been a long-standing and humble contributor to worthy causes related to health, education, community and the environment. Throughout its 20 years, The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc. has contributed to 62 organizations to better communities across the Maritimes.
"We are so grateful for the generosity of our lead donor, The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc. Mr. Clark is the embodiment of philanthropy in action," says Foundation President and CEO Jeff McAloon. "The extensive renovation and retrofit, scheduled to break ground soon, will create better patient care for over 40,000 patients across Atlantic Canada annually and ensures the clinic can meet future patient volume demands expected to be 46,000 in the next five years."
Mr. John T. Clark, founder of The J.T. Clark Family Foundation Inc., experienced first hand the quality care provided at Clinic 1. "What was thought to be a simple cold sore but later determined to be a Merkel Cell Carcinoma, removed and repaired within 29 days from diagnosis to surgery, has prompted our desire to bring the Clinic 1 Campaign to a close, as a way to recognize the many professionals and staff who have made this remarkable saga possible" says Mr. Clark.
The $12 million is a combination of donations secured through the generosity of foundations, corporate partners, individuals, and events, reflecting the community's power in transforming health care for patients across the Province.
"It was exciting to watch Horizon's Saint John Regional Hospital and the community come together over four years to improve health care and revolutionize Clinic 1," says Health Minister Dorothy Shephard. "The extensive rebuild and expansion of Clinic 1 will offer something for patients, physicians, nurses and staff. The Province is grateful for the generosity of donors who saw the need for a new clinic and supported bringing it to life."
Ambulatory Clinic 1 is the busiest Clinic at Horizons’ Saint John Regional Hospital, untouched since 1982. Steen Knorr Architecture Incorporated has envisioned a functional, welcoming space that will be more than double its size. The project, delayed due to COVID-19, will transform a 7,000 square-foot space into 14,700 square feet, improving accessibility, privacy and patient comfort while also being flexible to adapt to future healthcare needs.
